Description:
On 19 April at approx. 2100
hours, I was driving into St. Johnsbury, as I looked up to the
South east I saw a red light very bright and large.
My first thought was, "Wow this
is a bright planet or star!" Then I saw more lights appearing
until a total of 10 of these lights appeared. The shape was like
that of some of the new fireworks that I have seen like an oval
shape. This was not the case.
As I continued to drive, the
lights seemed to pulsate. Then as quickly as they appeared the
lights started to disappeared, but not in the order that they
appeared. Starting with the last light that appeared the lights
started to fade away but alternating (for example 10, 8, 9, 7,
etc.) until there was the first light that I saw was the only
light in the sky.
This object did not have any
sound and looked about the size of 2 football fields and about 3/4
a mile away. This is something that I could not quite believe I
was seeing. Like I said being a pilot and familiar with civilian
aircraft, Military Aircraft this is nothing I have ever seen
before.
At this point I looked south on
the road to be sure no vehicles were approaching me. I looked up
and there were no lights left. At approx. 2110 hours I heard a
military aircraft flying overhead with full after burners on. I
heard this while in my parents home and when I went outside, of
course this aircraft was long out of sight, but could continue to
hear this for about 5 minutes.
There is a military base in
Burlington Vermont about 45 NM from St. Johnsbury with F-16's.
Now if they were scrambled, it
would probably take them 10 minutes to get in this air space.
There is also a military operations area for aircraft (Yankee One
MOA) which runs just east of St. Johnsbury up into Maine.
Yes, it is possible they were
having maneuvers in this area, but not likely as they would not be
burning out as this aircraft was.
I am not sure what this was and
more than likely ever know but this was not something you see
every day. I know it was not anything I have ever seen for the 48
years on this earth. The night was clear bright moon warm about
69 degrees.
I called the police department
(which I worked for) and asked if any one had called in on this
and they did not get any calls.
So what was this? The one time
I did not have my camera. Just my luck. If anyone else saw this
please write.
Thank you
Mark
