It appeared to be a white object almost like a line in the sky from where I saw it. If I had to call it a shape I would say a cigar. At first I dismissed it as a far off plane. But then realized that It didn't appear to be moving and remained in the same area of sky. When I took a second look, I noticed the was no sign of wings and didn't appear to be anything I could identify. It was mid morning and there was high visibility. I drove at least 4 miles, still being able to view it in the distance. The object didn't ever appear to get large as I would have assumed. I was getting closer. It may have been quite aways a way, it did appear rather small. Ready to dismiss the whole thing, I decided to take one last look at it. Having been only a second or so I looked a again only to see it had disappeared. There was nothing in that part of the sky. No trail, nothing. Hoping I'm not the only one who saw this. if you have a theory as to what I saw, love to hear it. They looked like the following: * * * * * * The craft flew low and was barely visible in the night sky. It moved forward and then slowed moving slightly sideways and then moved forward again and slowed. The last time it moved forward it moved out of my range of vision. It was twice as large as an airplane and moved almost three times as fast with NO noise! I saw planes flying overhead shortly after the incident. I am not crazy and I do not do drugs...I have no reasonable explanation for what I saw.... I thought it was a plane flying out from LAX, as it was taking the same flight path. As it turned toward the North and came out of the glare of the sun, I saw first that it had no tail section. It was an entirely uniform, very shiny aluminum object. As it turned farther north, I saw that it had neither nose-cone nor wings, no visible engine or propellant system, leaving no noise or exhaust. It was simply a large cigar-tube-shaped object that clearly cut off sharply in the front and back. It was DEFINITELY not a plane flying out of LAX, nor anything that I have ever heard of or seen. It appeared to be two to three times the size of a jet airliner, but size was hard to judge as I could not determine it's distance, although I would guess that it was about 5-7 miles away, moving about 200 miles per hour. As it turned completely to the North, I saw that it definitely had neither wings nor an engine: It appeared as just a circle, flying northward. Suddenly, dramatically, the circle began to get smaller, and it became apparent that it was flying away from me at a tremendous speed, to the North and at an angle of approximately 30 degrees off the horizon. It took about eight seconds to disappear, leaving neither noise nor exhaust. It was clearly not a conventional aircraft, and I have read in books that this "flying cigar-tube" was one of the original "foo-fighters" Air Force pilots reported sighting in the early part of this century, before they shut their mouths and locked up the files. What I saw fits that description exactly. It was a flying aluminum cigar-tube that zoomed off at a speed at least several thousand miles per hour. It moved out of visual range in about the same time that it would take a conventional aircraft to get off the runway, and I am convinced that this thing was not being piloted by some Air Force Pilot. Also, the speed was such that it should have at least left a sonic boom, and there was none. This is no joke, no hallucination. It traveled in a straight line toward the south/southeast. It left a trail of sparks, and the head was a bright green with a yellowish "halo" around it. there appeared to be sparks coming from the head, and it had a comet-like appearance. The object's head seemed to split into two close points of light, one behind the other before finally disappearing behind some trees. It did not lose it's brightness in all the time (10 seconds) we watched it. The size of the head appeared to be approximately the size of the little fingernail when extended at arm's length. I would estimate it was at no higher than maybe 5000 ft. It was silver, shiny and maybe the size of ten 747's. I just wondered if I was the only one to see it. Update Information: As to the craft I saw; it was silver, shiny (very), no plates. Although there was some sort of horizontal texture, that's not right but it's difficult to describe. It was solid, definitely not a dirigible. A rectangle, the angle on each end only very slightly softened. It was very big and very visible. I'm surprised no one else saw it. It was not moving, it just sat there in the sky. Very strange indeed. That's really all I can tell you. Gloria M. I am former military and fairly educated in aircraft, and being so, my observations made me curious. I went into the front yard for fresh air and saw a oblong (or teardrop?) shaped craft flying n/e from s/w away from hwy 680 in San Ramon. The craft was flying at approximatey 5,000 feet or whatever the normal flight height is for smaller aircraft which are normally seen in the area. I heard no sound of prop, engine, or jet at the time (which was what made me initially curious), which is abnormal due to the following facts: planes fly over the area regularly, I've never seen a plane that didn't make a sound, and there were several aircraft in the general area before and after (at the same altitude) the incident that emitted common sounds.
The craft had a string of lights circling its mid-section continuously in motion and in four different colors (blue, red,
green, and white). The craft traveled faster than the average prop plane by far and was, within a matter of twenty
seconds, no longer visible. In addition to the strange craft, I observed two military jets (I am almost sure they were
military due to the same configuration of lights on both, speeds, and jet sounds emitted). The two jets followed the
path of the unidentified craft just seconds behind it and in turn disappeared over the south-eastern horizon of the mt.
Diablo foothills area. I submit this purely out of curiosity and speculation, have no proof other than my testimony, and would appreciate a response if additional witness observations have been reported. They seemed to be maybe a mile up in the sky, not to sure since it was dark, could have been higher. I thought that they were landing lights on an airplane, untill I noticed that they were also going southbound. So I just kept watching and all of a sudden, they picked up enormous speed and started going so fast that I quit moving my eyes and started moving my head. Like I said, I thought that the lights were landing lights because they were so bright, but landing lights would not have been visible from the rear of the craft. Within seconds the lights were out of sight, I'm not sure what I saw, but I do know one thing, this was in no way any plane or craft that we as civilians are aware of ever being built. This sighting took place nearly 27 years ago. My wife and I were on our way back from the Colorado River, the sun was setting in front of us, which made it difficult to see the highway. So we pulled over at the small town of Rice, Ca. We walked across the highway to the only gas station in town to refill our cooler with ice and grab a few sodas for the trip home. When we returned to our pickup, we plopped down the tailgate, had a seat, and enjoyed a most beautiful sunset. Then we noticed what seemed to be ball lighting just over the mountain range to the east of us. Before we knew it, there were three of these, (for lack of a better term) objects. They could not have been ball lighting, as they were darting all over the sky at a very high rate of speed, then coming to a complete stop in a matter of a split second.
We watched this for approximately a half an hour before they went straight up and vanished without a trace. No contrails, nothing, just gone. I'm not saying these were from another world, but if they were from our world, someone
has some technology that we are not aware of yet. They moved way to fast and made such sharp turns at incredible speed, it would have surely broken any type of conventional aircraft in half. Several others, that were heading
northeast, stopped and watched these objects/craft. I took a few Polaroid's of these balls of light, and if I can locate
them, I will most certainly pass them on to your Webmaster. Thanks for giving me a place to air out my experience. By the way, I like what you have done with your web site, a vast improvement from just a few months ago. Top of Page Reported By: John M - June 4, 1999 Location: Gorman, Ca - Sighting Date: Friday, June 4, 1999 10:30 PM Objects shape: Disc shaped craft, similar to an extremely large Aircraft landing light. - Objects direction of travel: North Event Description: I drive a truck for a living and see some unusual things in the sky, especially at night, but nothing like what I saw a few nights ago. I was driving back from San Diego to South San Francisco, Ca. I was traveling on Interstate 5 in an area known as The Grapevine. I noticed what looked like the landing light of an aircraft of some type. At the time, it was cloudy and hard to make out any specific shape of this object. I could see a very bright light that would come and go. I mean the light would appear and then disappear. When the light would go out, I was able to see the faint outline of a disc shaped object. It was almost as if this thing was floating rather than flying. And it was moving North at a very slow pace.
I got on my CB and asked if anyone else was seeing what I was. Some of the other truckers told me they thought it was probably Jupiter. Being a bit of an amateur astronomer, Jupiter must be lost as this object was in the wrong part
of the sky to be Jupiter. Also, can Jupiter turn its brightness off and on? I don't think so! The object was well below the cloud cover. If this object was in fact an aircraft, it must have been flying in reverse! The landing lights are always facing the front of the aircraft. Even those "Crop Dusters" have their bright lights, they use for night spraying, aimed towards the front! The reason I mention this is the object was moving the same direction I was moving, NORTH. I watched this for over an hour, the time it takes a loaded semi to cross the "Grapevine." Update: John sent us the following: Reported by: Jack, our Webmaster - Occurred : 1/29/1999 07:20 am - Reported : 1/30/1999 Location : 4 miles west of Maricopa on Hwy. 166, CA - Subject: UFO Sighting - Objects Shape: Shape: Disk Event Description: While traveling from Bakersfield, Ca to San Luis Obispo, Ca. On the morning of 1/29/99, on Hwy. 166 just west of Maricopa, approximately 3 to 4 miles. Hwy. 166 west of Maricopa turns into a long steep grade, which drops the speed of loaded semi trucks down to a crawl. The reduced speed gives me a great opportunity to gaze at the beauty of the San Joaquin Valley below. It also gives me the chance to watch the commercial airlines fly into & out of the Los Angeles area over the mountain range to the south of Hwy. 166. The aircraft that were flying north would leave long, thick contrails as they entered the San Joaquin Valley. After listening to Art Bell's discussion a few nights earlier about aircraft leaving strange contrails is what drew my attention to these aircraft and their contrails. As I was watching one aircraft and it's contrail, I noticed an object just to the left rear of the contrail and the aircraft. It appeared to be about two to three times larger than the size of the commercial airliner. It also seemed to be at the same altitude. This object was unlike anything I ever seen before. Being a bit of a skeptic on UFO's, at first I dismissed it as just another aircraft. But then, this object in just a matter of a few seconds darted across the sky to a plane that was headed north and followed it for about a minute or two. This got my curiosity up. So at the first turn out I pulled over, got out my binoculars, and started watching this object. It would follow one plane for two to three minutes. Then, In a matter of seconds, It would dart across the sky and start following another plane.
It always stayed just to the rear and left of the plane and it's contrail. The odd thing about this object was that it
appeared to be transparent at times, Then solid. The shape of this object would be almost as if you put two coffee cup saucers together, but not quite as round. On top, this object had a small dome like shape, But with sharp
angles. On the bottom, it had a smaller, more rounded dome shape that ran almost the length of the object. The object had a grayish, silver color to it. Neither lights nor windows were visible any where on this object. Nor were
there any type of numbers, letter's or any other identifying marks visible. The other odd thing about this object was
the fact that each airplane that flew into the San Joaquin Valley airspace left a contrail. This object left none at all! |
