Brad's Own UFO Sightings
My
First
UFO
Sighting
Date:
Spring or summer 1958 Location: Stawell,
Victoria, Australia. A small town on the Adelaide
highway 150 miles from Melbourne Time: 11.30
Am until around 2.00 pm Event Description :
A bright silver "Adamski" type flying saucer hovering
for two hours
My first sighting took place in Stawell, Victoria
Australia, in about 1958. (Boy, how does anyone remember
back that far.)
I was around eleven years of age and it was probably
spring or summer of that year as it was a fine cloudless
day. Not usual at all, in the other months of the year.
I remember the occurrence vividly. It was 11:30 AM and I
was about to leave the house by the front door. This
door faces due west and if not for the house across the
street it would have been possible to see the Grampians
Mountains around 20 Km away.
As I left the house, I noticed a gleaming silver object
the size of a dot at an elevation of 15 to 20 degrees
dead ahead of me. It was later estimated by all
witnesses to be around 10 Km distant which would mean
its height would have been around 1,500 to 2,000 feet.
It was giving off a series of repeated bright lights
from underneath, Blue, Red, Green, White, in that order.
I couldn't see what the “dot” was, but it was hovering
in the one spot without moving.
I watched it for a few minutes and then called my
parents who came and saw the same thing as I did.
After a while we called the neighbors from across the
street, who brought over their tripod mounted telescope.
It was only a 4 inch 'scope but it brought the object
into clear and undisputed view. It was a classic early
1950s flying saucer.
A flat bottomed disc with a turret type dome on top with
windows and the old 3 ball type undercarriage
protrusions beneath it. The flashing lights were coming
from a point directly under the middle of the disc.
I had seen pictures of the original flying saucers,
which by that time, had been resoundingly debunked by
officialdom and ridiculed by the press so I was not a
stranger to what it was. Nor were my parents and my
neighbors.
There was one difference I noted from the pictures
though. Where the old pictures showed round porthole
type windows, this craft had vertically elongated
rectangular windows with rounded tops. Just like the
narrow church windows you sometimes see.
All of us watched that disc hovering there without
movement or change until after 1 PM, almost 2 hours.
Having other things to do, we gradually broke up and
went away and the next time I looked for it, it was
gone.
Stawell was 150 miles from Melbourne and saw military
aircraft once a year, at the Remembrance Day Flypast. (A
Canberra Bomber usually, the only one with the range to
fly past all the towns in western Victoria.) There was a
light plane airstrip nearby but only had a Cessna 172
and 2 crop dusters. No one in the town to my knowledge
had seen a helicopter outside of the Sydney area, a
thousand miles away.
Aircraft in the area were rare but recognizable and
there were none capable of hovering at all. This was
obviously a constructed aerial machine, way outside the
type of aircraft that existed anywhere in the world, let
alone in this isolated spot in country Victoria.
I was later to receive a report (from 1977) of another
“flying Saucer” hovering over Lake Fyans which would
have been almost directly under the UFO I and my family
saw.
With multiple witnesses watching this UFO in daylight
for such a long period through a telescope, I conclude
that there is no doubt it was an alien
constructed flying machine. What its reasons for being
there and all the other question as to where it came
from, etc., remain unknown, but one thing is for sure….
It shaped my belief in the phenomenon for the rest of my
life

My
Second Sighting
Date: The 15th January,1974. Location: Twofold Bay (Eden), Far South Coast, New South Wales, Australia. Time: 0530 to 0615 am Event Description
: One star like light moving in purposeful patterns, at great height in the southern sky.
Working night shift as Maintenance Engineer at the Woodchip Mill in Eden, New
South Wales. I had just finished a job on the shiploading wharf and was getting into the maintenance truck. One of those ultra bright phosphorescing meteors
that light up the whole sky and leave a fading trail appeared at about 80º to 85º elevation, coming directly downward to the south of my position. It shot down to
about the 45º elevation position, directly to my south. Instead of disappearing it actually stopped dead and stayed brightly lit (about the same magnitude as Venus).
After about 30 seconds, it started to crawl to my right at the same elevation, until it had traversed about 30º of arc.... And then stopped again. It then
crawled back to its first stopping point and stopped again. Then it shot upwards at a 45º angle while greatly phosphorescing again and leaving a trail just like when it first appeared.
At the top of its fast Shooting Star Act it stopped dead again. Then it crawled left, for 20º 0r 30º before becoming a shooting star again in another direction
and then stopping. This crawling and shooting went on for 45 minutes over about 90º of arc of the southern sky and from 45 to 90º elevation.
Being alone on the wharf I had no one to co-witness witness my sighting. As the sky lightened before the dawn in the East (to my left over the ocean) the rest of
the stars faded but this UFO stayed bright but decided to exit by crawling directly east until lost in the coming dawn. During this entire performance I
estimate (My military Officer Training) that the UFO was certainly in excess of 80,000 ft and probably around 150,000 ft. When "crawling" it moved with the
relative speed that a civil airliner appears to when it is at full cruising height (35,000 ft).
Having just exited the Military I was aware of the lack of Earthly technology able
to undertake this performance. Nothing existed that could Shoot like a star, Fly at such heights, Stay stationary for lengthy periods, and be supported so far
from the nearest possible base of earthly operations. (12,000 miles from the USA and no Australian base could hide operations like it, especially in 1974).
There was no question in my mind I witnessed extraterrestrial technology in action. Technology aside, What about the psychology and motivations of the performance?
Questions and Observations.
The first "shooting star act" just maybe could have been atmospheric entry. What then was the 6 or 7 following times it acted like a shooting star? Was it an
incompetent attempt at disguising themselves as a known phenomenon? Or was it a blatant attempt to attract attention?
If it was the first, then how come they are so incompetent?
If the second, why don't they just come on down and buzz our streets and buildings?
What would be a UFO's reasons for staying so high? For hanging around such a
remote area with no military, scientific or other known interests. These and a hundred other questions make no sense, the possible answers make no sense.
Obviously the psychology and motivations behind this UFO sighting are going to remain, like UFO's themselves, unidentified. Nevertheless these questions from
this sighting are what led me personally to pursue a lifetime of UFO Investigating.
Should anyone have had a similar sighting, I would be extremely interested in hearing from you.

My
Third
Sighting
Date: The 5th January,1987. Location:
The Hunter Valley, North of Singleton, New South Wales, Australia. Time:
0530 Event Description : Green fireball with
long fiery tail and two windows travelling from horizon
to horizon at low altitude.
My third UFO sighting took place in the Hunter Valley
west of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.
I was working at an open cut coal mine, as mechanical
training officer. It was a 26 Km drive from town every
day. My days started early, so I was often driving to
work well before dawn.
One day in January 1987, at about 5.30 AM, I was driving
in alone, there was a bright green flash lit up the sky
and as I leaned forward and peered out the windscreen to
see what caused it, I saw, over the hills off to my left
(south), an emerald green fireball with a 150 metre (400
ft) green fiery tail streaking across the sky.
I know how bolides, (meteors) can be green
in colour depending on their mineral makeup, but unless
they cross high in the stratosphere they do not normally
fly parallel with the ground.
This one was flying parallel to the ground without
rising or falling, at a height of around 500 feet.
It seemed to be about 30 feet in diameter and flew from
left horizon across the front of my cars path to the
right horizon, disappearing behind more hills, within
the space of about 10 seconds.
You may think that is not long to see and comprehend an
unknown phenomenon, but I estimate that an FA 18 fighter
like those stationed at Newcastle, not 10 minutes flying
time away, would have covered the same path in about the
same time if it were flying at the same height.
I certainly would have had time (count slowly to ten) to
comprehend an FA 18 so why not a 30 foot (10 metre)
green fireball?
Could it have been a natural phenomenon? An unusual
bolide? The real clincher for me was, that set into the
front side of the fireball were two huge dark panels
which I must presume were windows.
See
sketch.
My biggest surprise was my own reaction to the sighting.
I had no excitement or elation at all. I just seemed to
calmly accept that I had seen a 30 foot UFO as if it
were something I saw every second day.
*

Later I was to learn that “green fireballs” had been
widely seen across the state for the previous 2 weeks,
often in twos or threes and that every few years they
reoccur.
These types of fireball UFOs are also seen in other
parts of the world, but are usually explained away as
bolides.
