The Australian UFO Research Network, AUFORN, is a dedicated collection of UFO investigatory groups and individuals from around Australia. These groups and individuals have come together to provide a basic framework for collecting and sharing witness reports and investigatory resources.
AUFORN created a toll free phone number for witnesses to call in their sightings from anywhere in Australia. That number, will connect with an AUFORN controller who will direct your sighting to your nearest local UFO research group or individual who will contact you about your sighting.
After sightings are investigated the report pf the event will be circulated to all members of the AUFORN group via their email network to ensure all members are up to speed on what is currently happening and where, and so that any relevant comments, suggestions and reports of other events may be added to the overall picture of UFO events in Australia.
AUFORN, via a liberal freedom of information policy, allows for network members like myself, or anyone from the general public to reuse and publish these reports providing the report is given in full with credit given to the AUFORN network and to the investigator involved.
On this page, I have posted selected reports of UFO sightings and other events reported and circulated on the AUFORN Network.
I commend and congratulate the Network and its members for providing this service to the public at large and for the vision of furthering the cause of UFO research in Australia and the world.

thought was very strange, she rang the UFO Hotline to report it. Shortly
afterwards released it was the Holden Airship (blimp) that was brought over to
Adelaide for the Clipsal 500 Touring Car Race.
Julie did want to tell the story of a strange encounter she had with her husband
in the early 1990s. They were travelling on Main North Road at approximately
10.00pm on a clear night when their vehicle became enveloped in a thick white
cotton-like cloud. Julie noticed on the passenger side of the car were she was
sitting a row of red lights that appeared to be flashing quite brightly moving
along with the vehicle. She described the thick cotton like mist being so thick
that it was as if a white pillow was put on front windscreen of the vehicle. As
they drove through the thick cloud, Julie stated that she suddenly got a very a
painful headache and got a sensation of being suffocated. She started to get
very scared, as she did not know what was going on or what was going to happen.
She also had a very strange sensation of reality and time not feeling right.
Julie thinks they were enveloped in the mysterious cloud for approximately five
minutes. Julie said even her husban! d was very concerned about what they had
experienced but had no explanation for this very strange experience. Julie
believes they could have encountered a UFO of some kind and feels that the
encounter affected her health for a number of years after the encounter.
Julie stated that the strange feelings in her head, she encountered on that
night lasted approximately two years and the painful headaches only started
going away about two years ago.
Julie stated that the first UFO she had seen was in 1965 or 1966 from there home
in Parafield. She saw a large dark cigar shaped object that appeared to fly in
an erratic manner. She said it was so long ago that she can’t remember many of
the details anymore other than to say it was very strange and scared her.

REPORT:
Courtney woke up at 0030hrs and was unable to get back to sleep. She got up and
looked out her bedroom window to watch a particular star that she finds
interesting and observed a strange light in the southeastern sky approximately
25 degrees above the Adelaide Hills. The object was slightly larger than the
planet Venus, spherical in shape. It was yellowish / white with a flickering a
reddish-blue light and had a solid red light underneath the object.
The object appeared to be moving up and down within the same area (jerky
motion). She watched the object for a nearly 4 hours; she then went to the
bathroom, when she returned the strange object had vanished.
On the 13th Febuary Courtney woke up again at 0330hrs and was unable to get back
to sleep, she looked out her bedroom window and saw what appeared to be the same
object over the Adelaide Hills that she had observed two weeks earlier. Again
the object was spherical in shape, a yellowish- white colour with a flickering
reddish-blue light and a solid red light underneath the object. The object also
had the same jerky motion. This time she grabbed her mobile videophone and
videoed the object for 3 minutes. She observed the object for approximately 60
minutes.
Courtney’s video footage will be investigated further at a later date.

Liz of Baulkham hills reported that on the Saturday morning, she was awoken by a
loud bang and looked at the clock to see what time it was. It was about 2:30 am.
When she looked, she saw that a bright orange light lit up her room. The light
was only encompassing her and her pet dog on the bed. She said that the light
was coming in through her window like a spotlight. She had the feeling of being
pinned down to her bed and she could not move.
She felt that herself and her dog were vibrating in the light as though “in a
magnetic field. It felt as if we were both lifted up and for some reason the
thought of ‘don’t take me’ was going through my mind.”
She was totally scared and her dog was really upset.
Liz then got out of bed and noted that the time was now 4:17 am.

I believe they are telepathic.
I seem to recall intoning the Lord’s Prayer before I saw them (just before I saw
them/it). I was hoping to see them and they seemed to respond.
This zig-zag behaviour lasted about 1-2 minutes then it stopped still right
above me (but very high up ~ 800m) and got brighter (like a white light) as
though it was coming closer And then it flashed brightly and just disappeared
from where it once was. I don’t think I am afraid of them and in fact I
wouldn’t mind if it is at all possible, if one day I could go for a ride in one

I remember asking (intoning) that they (UFO people) come visit us here on Earth
23rd January 2007 and the funny thing was that we had the wildest thunder and
lightning show I have seen in my whole life while driving home from Mittagong.
Since this event it prompted me to look on the internet for storms and UFO’s.

Chris came out of his house around 5:50 am on the Saturday morning of the 17 of
February and was greeted by a set of lights coming towards him from the west.
“As I watched, it turned a reasonably sharp turn towards south (right) and
changed shape to a thin ellipse. There was no wind and no sound at all.
Effectively, I imagined that it was still a long way away, so a faint sound
might not have been heard.”
Chris then raced to the vacant block at the back of his house to see the object
as it went behind a tree and came out still going south. He then raced across to
the beach and was able to watch this thing until it could not be seen any more
in an ever lightening, pre dawn sky. Chris described speeds as normal Aviation
speeds.
Chris actually held out his hand as it passed through the turn and at arm’s
length, the object subtended roughly 15 millimetres.
Chris described the object as a complete diameter of lights.
Chris has been in the Royal aircraft establishment in the U.K. and involved with
all sorts of aircraft including wind tunnel assessments. Associated with
aircraft for a large slice of his life, he felt sure that this was not like any
aircraft he had ever seen and not heard! The night was clear and there was no
moon.
The object when last sighted was about 5 degrees w of south and about three
degrees off level ground.
Chris contacted the authorities at Newcastle RAAF. They put him onto us but
would not comment at all on his sighting.

“I live in Centennial Park on the eastern side of the city in a 3 storey house
with views of the city.
On Wednesday the 21.02.07 at 11.38pm I had been composing music in my room
when I received a text message from a good friend which read " I am sitting on a
beach and have spent the last 20 minutes watching a ufo dance in the sky.." I
ran to the roof of my house whilst calling my friend. I asked him where he was,
he said he and 2 friends were in the northern beaches and had observed a light
in the sky dancing like a musical bouncing ball, making zig zags and streaking
high speed hair pin turns.
I could see nothing at first and then way over to the NNE I saw what looked
like a spark racing across the horizon covering incredible distances and
suddenly achieve a complete stop. It then disappeared only to reappear shooting
upwards like shooting star and making a horse shoe turn in a half second it had
returned to its point of origin. My sister
Emily stood next to me and confirmed what I was seeing.
This ceased after 7 minutes and the sky offered only stars to look at until
both Emily and I observed what seemed like red plane lights in a similar area
of the sky these lights were accompanied by satellite lights around the centre
light. this light formation moved westward very slowly but judging from the
distances between the lights it was a single object it was the size of a small
town.
After about 2 mins nothing could be observed in that part of the sky except two
bright stars.
Yours in earnest

rreceived from FORM on 3/03/2007 00:24:57
New Zealand UFO Sighting Report
Date: Tuesday 1st August 2006
Time: 8.50 pm
Place: Maungaraki, Lower Hutt, North Island, New Zealand
Description: A witness was standing on his back doorstep, when he noticed a
beam of light extending over a hill approx. 1.2 kms from his house (looking
in a northerly direction over bush-clad hills). Suddenly the beam
disappeared and a large, bright yellowish light appeared and hovered
soundlessly over the hill around 300-400ft above the summit. The witness
watched it briefly and then called another witness from inside the house to
video the light (captured on digital camera). After 30 seconds or so, the
light began to move around above the hill, changing direction frequently.
Two other lights began to flash forming a triangular shape in the sky, two
bright yellowish/white and one orange. The lights flashed on and off
randomly, although they all moved about in unison or formation, as the
light/object moved about. The witnesses believed the lights were all on one
object, rather than a group of three objects. They considered the initial
sudden appearance and the Obehaviour¹ of the light/object very strange.
The video footage shows a Ofalling leaf¹ or Oswaying¹ type of movement, with
sudden changes of direction, followed by a rotation of the three bright
lights in triangular formation, executing a flat, angular turn on a plane
(not banking like an aircraft), blunt-end-forward, as the light/object began
to move off. The light configuration appeared to be on a large, flattish
object, possibly triangular. The sighting lasted around 2 minutes and
ceased when the lights ³just flicked off like a light switching off².
Air Traffic Control has established that it was not an aircraft. The
possibility that it may have been a police helicopter was ruled out when ATC
viewed the footage, as the light configuration did not resemble that of a
helicopter. The entire sighting captured on video shows 9 out of the 15
main characteristics of Oblack triangle¹ craft, sightings of which are
increasing worldwide. At the time of this sighting, reports were made of
unusual lights in the night sky all over the southern North Island.
This case in still under investigation.

NAME: Allan
REPORT:
Whilst reading an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, Allan was moved to
report something from the 1980¹s that he felt was too extraordinary for
words. Whilst living in Balmain, he looked out on a weekday night from his
upstairs veranda on a side of the house looking west. Not too long after
sundown, against a pitch-black western sky, there were point sources of
light low down on the horizon. He saw about 5 or 6 of them and there seemed
to be a Omother¹ ship the other points were rotating around. ³Erratic
circling² was the description given to their movements about the dominant
craft. They moved as a group from south to north. All of a sudden, they all
accelerated north. He recalls no colours. Simply white point sources. Allan
was really amazed by this. Later on that night, he called the observatory,
³ had any reports?²
³No² was the answer. The very next day, he rang the Herald, ³ any reports?²
³No² again.
The whole sighting lasted about 4 minutes. He was amazed no one else saw
anything and decided to ³pull his head in² after that.
Extreme acceleration of these objects were estimated at travelling through
10 degrees in a couple of minutes when first observed, then through an angle
of 30 degrees of sky in a couple of seconds!
Convinced that it cannot be explained in down to earth terms, Allan was also
just as convinced that these objects were low in the atmosphere.

About 10 years ago, the caller¹s sister had a strange sighting. Although she
is a nurse with no interest in UFO¹s at all, she felt compelled to tell the
story through her brother as it involved a strange disappearance.
Living on an elevated setting in a mountain range, she was able to look down
upon aerial objects. One night, she looked out to see a bright object
illuminated by a set of on board lights. At one point, the silent, slow
moving object gave out a brilliant stream of light which corkscrewed ahead
of the craft. It was into this stream of light that the craft
³dematerialised².
Some years later, the caller¹s father, a retiree from air traffic control
and also with no UFO interest, was outside the same premises at around 3 am
when he saw what could only be described as ³the same damn thing².
The caller has subsequently become deeply interested in theoretical physics
to the extent that he had to call someone and correlate his findings along
with reporting the original incidents which started it all off.

Trish called during a sighting of three objects that she saw circling an
area between the Williamtown air base, Scott¹s flat and singleton itself.
She was originally drawn outside by the two dogs on the property ³going

Trish described the objects by their lights three in a line on the
underside. None were blinking. Having lived in the area for 15 months, both
she and her husband had to admit that the lack of sound and closeness of
these craft, coupled with the strange bright lights on them, made for an
unusual sight.
The craft were seemingly able to slow to a crawl if necessary and
occasionally gathered formation whilst circling, one waiting for the other
in mid-air!
The couple are used to seeing so many aircraft and jets in the area, that at
first her husband dismissed that it could be anything strange. But after
seeing these three strings of light in the sky, he changed his Otune¹.
About one year earlier, still new to the area, Trish was first called to the
back garden by her dogs barking incessantly at Onothing¹. That was the first
time she encountered exactly the same string of three lights in a row on a
single craft. This object was most definitely hovering and the dogs did not
give up until it was gone.
Neither person had ever reported UFO¹s before.

Mr M has been witnessing strange flashes in the night sky, which only lasts

beginning of the year. The flash happens generally between the hours of
11.30pm-3.00am and he has seen it 4 times in the past months.
After witnessing this several times, he decided to contact the Department of
Meteorology and the Sydney Observatory to see if there was an explanation.
Neither party were interested in giving an explanation, however the Dept. of
Meteorology seemed to think he was witnessing lightning.
Mr M laughed this explanation off but has no idea what the flash and was
hoping that there had been other reports. He explains the flash to be like
an electricity transformer exploding but with no noise just the flash. The
flash happens so quickly that if you were not looking in the right
direction, you would never see it. He also explains that if it were
lightning, then the whole sky would light up and this is not the case with
what he is seeing. Only an area directly west of Guildford over the
mountains lights up!

their local police station. The lady she was talking to told her that the
Police probably wouldn¹t be interested and gave her the AUFORN 1800 number.
While both were still witnessing the event, Ms P rang the 1800 number hoping

Ms P, who is 51 years old and Mr J who is 58 and an industrial chemist,

Cross constellation in the sky. The whole sighting on each night, at the
same time of evening lasted around 6 7 seconds and felt that what she saw
was strange enough from that of a satellite to report it to a UFO society.

REPORT:
This report concerned both night and daylight orbs from the areas of Alwood,
Canterbury and Hurstville. On the 18 June between 2:50 - 3:05 pm, they were
appearing as stars in the afternoon sky lasting some 7 minutes. The objects
numbered up to 4, then one disappeared and the rest formed a triangle.
During the phase, one would accelerate toward the others. Gary remembers
looking up a website called UFOevidence.org where he found that a pilot saw
something similar on the same day at Tamworth two and a half hours earlier.
Gary first saw something strange in September of 2003 and always around the
Botany Bay area, mostly in southern sky. On Saturday 27th Sep 2003 to be
exact! At 11 am from different directions where one was moving towards the
first. He could not describe shapes, but referred to it as a ³good look at
it². On a separate sighting, Thursday 6th, then on the 12th, and finally the
14th January, 2005, an object appears over Sydney. Each time, the object
first appears at 7 pm then disappears at 8:20 pm. ³It speeds up and just
goes! A tail forms as it speeds up.²
At one point, Gary contacts The Daily Telegraph. They are not interested.
Gary enjoys elevated views. He is able to see from Chatswood to the Blue
Mountains.

REPORT:
Stella rang to say that she has been seeing things in the sky since she was
8 years old. Even her son saw such things and had used the type of language
to describe them that he should not have known at the time. By then, all of
this did not seem so strange to her. There was, to her, almost a feeling of
being one of a few fortunate people in the world.
IN those times, Stella and her family lived in a remote area known as
Wyangeree, (Lismore). But all of that was some 40 years ago.
Present day: Having shifted to Dubbo, she had forgotten about all that stuff
- until about 1993. She now had a garden outside which she tended of a night
time do the watering. During the last decade, she has seen some very strange
things, certainly not satellites. Her Husband and Neighbours always saw all
these things from time to time.
Stella started to count sightings and managed to get up to 120 before this
year had even begun. She called recently to tell of objects which outshone
others and she asked about little scout ships seen well before Christmas 0-
even asking if anyone knew what they might be.
Stella was now seeing objects in a sort of pattern of timing which suggested
they may have been man made. But nothing was supposed to be in the sky and
nothing so bright in orbit (she had a friend check this out for her).
Stumped by this, she went on to describe ³Large ones at roughly 8:30 or 11
pm. They used to Oflick on¹ Due East and travel southerly.² Some erratic
movements were noticed but mostly smooth and slow moving actions dominated
her sightings. According to her informers, no known man made objects should
have been bright enough to occur regularly in the sky at those times. ³Some
of these objects are a reasonably large size, but most were small and look
like remote control or unmanned AV¹s. No particular shape.² Stella has
formed a great belief of Galactic ships in the solar system. We have invited
her to collate her sightings with us over time.

REPORT:
At about 11:20pm on the Tuesday night of the 15th of August, 2006, 3
security officers were beginning / ending shifts at the Bega township,
Southern NSW. One of them looked up, asking ³is that a helicopter?² All
three of the men looked up to see a bright orange ball of light to the
South, seemingly high in altitude but low on the horizon. Then, the ball of
light came closer, getting larger and brighter than amber street lamps in
the foreground. At one point, the caller estimated the object to be no more
than 300 m up and 300 m away. The object flickered a little around the
edges. Then, the three witnesses, Ogob smacked¹, looked on as the object
hovered motionless without making a sound. When the object finally moved
away and receded, it finally petered out of sight.
The three guards talked about what they had seen and then went about their
business. The whole sighting took some 15 minutes and the caller referred to
their notes when recalling the times and dates.
At around 11:45, the nightwatchman telephoned the caller from one of the
premises on his tour to say that the object ³was back², this time somewhat
smaller and more distant. A little further to the eastern sky, the object
finally ³went out like a light². The caller logged the times as from 11:52
11:55pm for this second sighting.
The caller has lived there all of his life, has been on the night shifts for
some13 years and has never seen so much in the sky as in this one year.

The sighting the caller originally wanted to report turned out to be the
blimp. But, he also told me about a sighting of a creature from about 3
years ago.
Michael lived in Algester, Queensland at the time. There was a train siding
area situated at the back of his property. One night, he came home late,
approximately 11 pm. He ventured out onto his balcony for a cigarette.
Suddenly, about 15 metres from him, he saw a dark, black creature, about 8
to 9 feet tall running across the train tracks and into the bush. He
described it as looking like ³bigfoot². Michael was terrified to the point
that the sighting has never left him.

Date: Sunday 21 May 2006
Time: 5-6.30 am
Place: Rimutaka Ranges, Wairarapa, North Island, New Zealand
Duration: Approx. 1 hour
Description: The sighting took place when the witness and his companion
were travelling to Lake Wairarapa early Sunday morning to go duck shooting.
The reporting witness has over 30 years experience hunting and tramping in
the Rimutaka Ranges.
The companions travelled out through Upper Hutt, over the Rimutaka Ranges,
and then proceeded through Featherston into the Martinborough area. Their
final destination was to be a Omaimai¹ (camouflaged duck shooting shelter)
located near Kahutara, Lake Wairarapa.
It was early morning; the conditions were clear at the time, with no wind or
moon.
The witnesses first spotted the unusual light between 5 and 5.30 am, when
driving through Kaitoke, north of Upper Hutt on the approach to the Rimutaka
Ranges. It was directly ahead of them over the hills; a large, bright
purple\blue light, which changed to yellow and then white. The light
initially appeared to be oval in shape, but its shape then became distorted
or fuzzy. As the witnesses drew closer to the hills, the light moved and
suddenly appeared very close to them, almost over them at one stage, before
returning back to its original position at approximately 30-35 degrees above
the ranges. They noticed that there was no sound accompanying the movement
of the light close to them. The witnesses described the light as having
soft hues that appeared to glow. They described the size of the light as
Osubstantial¹.
The light remained in view for approximately another 20-25 minutes until the
men drove over the ranges and down the other side towards Featherstone. At
this stage they lost sight of the light because of the close proximity of
hill ridgelines. The men continued on their way discussing what they had
seen. (The reporting witness had observed a similar unusual light on the
West Coast of the South Island many years ago).
Upon arriving at the maimai, located at the north eastern end of Lake
Wairarapa, the men busied themselves preparing for the mornings shooting.
Once settled in the maimai, the witnesses were facing in a southwesterly
direction overlooking the lake, waiting for ducks to show up! The sun had
not yet risen.
Shortly after 6 pm, the men noticed a glow behind a hill called Maunganui,
some 12 kms distant (an estimate). Near the hill was a flat plateau along
Western Lake Road. The witnesses observed this whole area - and the
surrounding hills also - light up as if in daylight, and they saw a glowing
light visible above Maunganui. This brilliant expanse of light remained
constant for approx. 10 minutes before suddenly extinguishing, leaving the
area in semi-darkness again before sunrise. The area that was lit up is
sparsely populated, with only a few farms in the area. Both men were left
baffled by this strange spectacle.

NAME: Ken
NUMBER OF WITNESSES: 1
NUMBER OF OBJECTS: 2
REPORT:
This particular report had been passed on to another organisation many years
ago but Ken could not remember as to whom. The incident happened some 28
years ago. Ken used to do a lot of fishing. Although Ken lived at St Peters,
He managed to find a lift from a friend spending time fishing off the
Maroubra coastline, in the CBD beach and cove districts of Sydney. After a
couple of years of this, his neighbour moved, but our caller had been bitten
by the fishing bug and carried on alone. 28 years ago, after fishing most of
the night and at a time still a couple of hours before daylight, an event
occurred that has stayed with him for life. Toward the Anzac rifle range end
of Maroubra Beach, Ken noticed lights toward the Sydney Heads.
³One light was brighter and appeared to be coming towards me. I didn¹t
initially take much notice. But at that time of night, I thought it a bit
strange.²
The lights ended up directly in front of me; less than a hundred yards out.
Just a light, a fairly small object at best, a bright white light, not
flashing, just fixed. I Sensed I was being watched by a controlled object.²
Ken had a fishing rod pointed toward it so he laid it down and crouched down
himself. After what seemed like two or three minutes, the object rose
straight up! Ken heard no sounds during the whole event. Ken described sea
conditions as calm no surf at all. The now singular object no more than a
hundred yards away, rose up higher than the rifle range and moved over the
Headland itself some 500 yards away until Ken lost sight of it down the
other side. Ken estimated the speed of movement over the Headland as slow,
about 20 40 k/hr.
³Then, a couple of minutes later, the light circled around, came back over
the range and landed directly behind me! Dust seemed to rise up from
underneath. It touched down and the light went out and complete darkness
fell over me again². The area in question is a light grass, scrub and bush
area, then the South Maroubra Lifesavers building grass area.²
³It landed there, the light went out and I got pretty nervous. I picked up
my fishing gear and started away toward the roadway. I kept looking behind.²
Amazingly, Ken waited in the bus shelter for cover of daylight and has
wondered to this day if He should have taken a closer look, but He was
alone.
Ken is now 78 years of age.
